Powney and Drane goals keep WMC on track

Easington Lane WMC remain on course for a top-three finish in the GEOL Consultant­s Peterlee and District Sunday League Premier Division after a 2-1 victory over Shotton Comrades.

Easington had goals coming from Karl Powney and Anthony Drane, while Shotton’s reply came from Liam Cockerill.

Also in the division, Jack Naylor and Alexander Morland were on target for Roseberry Park when they also won 2-1 against Peterlee Helford Utd, with Rhys Turnbull replying.

A hat-trick from Brandon Cook and a strike from Karl Anderson paved the way for South Hetton Cricket Club to defeat Easington Welfare 4-2, with Ewan James and Jordan Williams on target for Welfare.

In the First Division, Blackhall Cricket Club maintained their promotion aspiration­s after hammering Easington CIU 9-0, thanks to four goals from Kyle Johns.

East Durham’s game against Horden Legion ending all-square 1-1.

Michael Williams, Lewis Wilkinson and Adam Wallace were on target for Seaham the Knack as they beat Seaham Park 3-1.

In Division Two, three matches went ahead and those games produced 29 goals between them.

The highest scorers on the day were Seaham Island Social Club, who defeated Horden Comrades 11-0 with Wesley Smith and Daniel Mottram both hitting hattricks.

Houghton Comrades of Great War beat Roseberry FC 10-1, with Josh Hope and Trevor Ramshaw netting a hat-trick and to complete the rout, Joe Turton and Ryan Shaw both scored two apiece.

Free scoring Wingate Howden, thanks to two goals from James Langan and Jamie Bennett plus efforts from Martin Mason and Jamie Robinson, cruised to a 6-1 win against Horden, whose reply came from Kyle Douglas.

Easington Colliery Welfare reached the final of the Tommy Burrell Memorial Cup after a comfortabl­e 3-0 semi-final win against Murton Colliery, with goals from Liam Adamson, Gary Shaw and Dennis Tapping.
