Off the buses!

-

So, work has started on the new City Centre one-way system and bus route.

The only problem is noone, not one resident that I've spoken to has a clue what the new bus route is. Would it not be helpful if our City fathers could publish a map (or maps) showing the details?

As far as anyone understands one will be able to pick up a bus outside the new railway station saving quite a hike to Fawcett Street and beyond for those lazy people among us.

Then where do the buses go to? Up Brougham Street, across the site of the old Peacocks store, across Blandford Street into Maritime Street and then? A right turn is on the cards for all buses heading west out of the city centre. This means the bus stops in Holmeside will go the same way as those in Vine Place, onto the scrap heap!

But what about those going north? Work has started but it doesn't appear that the final details have been worked out. These plans come after all buses from the west of the city were diverted past Park Lane, up Stockton Road, (A1231), Burdon Road and into town following on from the council's decision to cancel the airshow to protect the environment from pollution. And the new bus route into town doesn't pollute with diesel fumes, does it?

Has anyone at City Hall sat down to work out which is the lesser of the two evils, allowing the airshow to go ahead or diverting the buses? I'm not a gambling man but I'll lay a pound to a penny that the new bus route will come out as the most polluting! Hypocrites!
