Business leaders urge PM Rishi Sunak to agree to new Metro loop and Leamside Line reopening.

Stephen Blenkinsop:

Would be great if it went to Nissan but only good if the bus also runs from where you live to the Metro station. As it is now you can’t get to the town bus station to get even the bus to Nissan as the buses don’t run before 6am to the town and when you are working until 2am at Nissan the bus only runs to town then you have to get taxi or walk home which takes an hour! So the transport system is not up to it!

Keith Nye: It will cost a lot less to re instate the link from Tyne Dock to East Boldon. With possible new stations at Green Lane and Galsworthy Road. A fast link from South Shields to Sunderland.

Matthew Robinson:

I keep saying they will introduce a new Metro station on Benton road between Brockley Whins and East Boldon.

Anne Trotter: Would we make it to Washington in 15 minutes.

George David Hope: Cannot run what they have at the minute to a decent standard so I think they should concentrate on getting that sorted first before they even think about this.

Valerie Nichol: Get this line working properly first.

Gary Watson: They should fully link up the North side first. All this plan will do is make the other stops less frequent around town.

Andrew Watson: Can’t maintain their direct service, run at a massive loss and have horrendous ASB already.

Patrick James: They can't even run a basic service.

Gary Duncan: Why does the Metro run from Sunderland city centre to Seaburn and then off to South Tyneside? Why doesn’t it serve the north side of Sunderland itself? Half the city are miles from the nearest station. Southwick, Castletown and everything between there and Boldon. Why is that massive population neglected? It’s not like there was never a rail line in that area. There was. So why not now? They don’t think it’s worth investing in because they won’t make massive amounts of profit from it. Too expensive for them.
