Rival consoles – this week’s top games
Session: Skate Sim Nintendo Switch
£39.99; Age rating: 12+
Unlike other skating titles that have an arcade-game style, Creature has taken full advantage of the Switch’s unique play systems and made Session: Skate Sim a feast of complicated controls. Very similar to Skate 3, it has a large map that you can free skate around. The tutorials teach you all you need to know about Switch-specific controls. For a small screen, the graphics are impressive. If you want an easy skate-along, this isn’t for you, but if you like to feel accomplished when you learn a new skill, this gives that buzz. 8/10
Production Chain Tycoon Mobile
Free; Age rating: N/A
In this seriously chilled-out mobile game, you are sure to spend hours drawing lines, building supplies and creating an adorable hub of islands, soundtracked by a super mellow, almost lo-fi vibe. This is really one for those needing a break from the stresses of their day-to-day life, as you can calmly complete simple tasks, which are well rewarded and have zero consequences. Want all the joy and time-passing of Candy Crush? Meet its calmer, more grown-up cousin. With lovely graphics and great development, this is a great, simple game. 8/10
Upon starting the game, you jump right into the story; resuscitated using a magic medallion, and advised how to perform certain actions, like jumping, sprint attacks, and quick attacks. However, the learning curve is steep; you encounter a Level 16 boss early on, who can one-shot kill you, forcing you to spawn back where you placed the initial shrine. Combat enables you to get stronger and outplay enemies with your abilities and attacks – strong players keep getting stronger and make the game easier, while weaker players stay weak. 6/10
