The Final Fantasy Trading Card Game Anniversary Collection
Set 2024 has a very long name but when you look at the 253 cards contained therein, that’s pretty long too. Is it worth buying though?
The Final Fantasy Trading Card Game has been continually releasing products since October 2016 with the recently released Hidden Hope being the 22nd booster pack and various starter decks and other products keeping fans happy and entertained for seven and a half years. How much you’re going to get from this anniversary collection really depends on what kind of a fan you are or want to be.
The box itself is your classic medium-sized storage box (any selfrespecting TCG fan has many of these lying around) featuring art from the recently re-released Crisis Core game (a spin-off from Final Fantasy VII, the most popular game in the series). As you open it, you’re presented with a learn-to-play sheet, a paper playmat featuring the same art as the box but with handy reminders of the key rules, and two packs of cards.
The smaller pack is a pre-made 50 card deck with which you can immediately start playing the game. As with any starter deck in any game this isn’t going to win any tournaments but it’s designed to give some good cards and is really just the beginning.
The second much larger pack of cards contains what you need to start deckbuilding or improving your existing decks. Featuring cards from the very first set onwards it’s full of cards that have proven to make a competitive impact and even features 12 legendary cards (the highest rarity in the game) each included as a regular art and extended fullart. Including two copies each of 12 legendary cards for the price is already a pretty good deal.
It also contains three copies (a playset in FFTCG) of a brand new promo card, all of which are premium full-art cards and are absolutely beautiful. In the pre-made deck you’ll also find three more promo cards, each included as a playset but with one premium full-art and two regular copies.
If you’re an existing fan of the
Final Fantasy TCG you’ve almost certainly already bought it for these cards. They’re beautiful, they’re new promos exclusive to the box and your collection won’t be complete without them. If you’re a new player though it’s less simple. If you’re looking to dive into the game then a pre-made deck, a whole bunch of legends and a lot more playable cards are going to provide a great kickstart to your Final Fantasy TCG journey. If you’re looking to play a few casual games with friends or family, there are plenty of two-player starter decks (may I recommend the Cloud and Sephiroth deck?) which you can crack open and immediately start playing.
Although maybe not for everyone this is very clearly a product put together very carefully to please existing fans while giving a fantastic entry point for people really looking to dive into the competitive side of the game. Or just get some very nice shiny cards, those new promos are lovely!

Between a well-made deck to get you going and fantastic, exclusive promos, this is a set which is fantastic value for existing fans and new competitive players. It could be slightly too much for new casual players though.
