First ever Christmas market is success for primary school

- By DAN NEWBOULD News Reporter Coton Green Primary School’s Christmas market.

TAMWORTH’S Coton Green Primary held its first ever Christmas market to great success.

The event, put together by the PTFA, was completely different to similar ones in previous years as organisers wanted to focus not on making money, but giving children a magical Christmas experience.

They invited local businesses to hold stalls, which included handmade gifts, sweet treats and food vendors. The Christmas Grotto had a winter wonderland theme, complete with a visit from Father Christmas and his elf Peppermint.

Outside, along with the market was a real surprise for the children with the addition of real reindeer.

The school hall hosted further festivities with a selection of Christmasthemed games. There was also the opportunity to make magical reindeer food and write the all important letter to Santa.

Two elves were also dancing around the hall greeting children, with music supplied by Coton Green’s very own DJ Mollie, from year 5.

As always, the annual Christmas raffle had fabulous prizes up for grabs, donated by the local community.

Headteacher Richard Osborne said: “Our Christmas fairs have always been well planned and supported by our PTFA and school community but this year the bar was well and truly raised with food stalls, real reindeer and an upgraded Santa’s grotto.

“This was all made possible through the PTFA and local businesses that sponsored the event. Our thanks go to all that made this year so magical for our children and families.

“The spirit of Christmas and sense of community was vibrating around thanks to the kindness and support from our event sponsors and local businesses.

“Their sponsorship and donations created lasting, magical memories for our families and we are so grateful for their kindness. Our appreciation is immeasurable.”

Coton Green would like to thank Maplevale Homes, Laemae Pallet Services Ltd, Acorn Taxis, United Plant Ltd, LCR Rubbish Removals, St John’s Ambulance, Smith & Ellis Butchers and EA Promotions.
