Aquarius team nets 25 medals

THIRTY swimmers from Kingsbury Aquarius Swimming Club braved the cold weather and headed over to Pingles Leisure Centre in Nuneaton for the Nuneaton and Bedworth Terry Freeman Open meet.

With 25 events over the two days, lots of medals and personal bests were up for grabs and the team produced some great performanc­es to return home with a haul of 26 medals.

The Saturday morning started with the open/boys 400m freestyle followed by the girls 200m Individual medley. Five swimmers took part in the event with PBS achieved and a bronze medal for Brooke Freer in the 15 and over age group. The girls were back in the pool for the 100m backstroke event which saw silvers for Freer and Hollie-mae Morris as well as a bronze medal for Rebecca Hill. Bruce Hackett swam a 23 second PB to win a silver in the 200m backstroke. The girls added to their medal haul in the 50m butterfly with Morris winning a silver and Hill winning gold.

The afternoon got off to a good start with Lois Dawe winning a bronze medal in the 15 and over age group. This was followed by a bronze for Kian Partlett in the 200m individual medley. Hackett then added a bronze in the 100m breaststro­ke. The open/boys 50m freestyle saw another medal for Partlett, this time a silver. The afternoon concluded with the girls 100m freestyle which saw a silver medal for Morris.

Sunday morning started with the girls 200m freestyle. Morris started off how she had finished the day before and won gold. This was quickly followed by a silver in the girls 50m backstroke. Hill and Freer also won gold in the same event. Morris and Hill then picked up gold in the girls 50m butterfly. The final event of the morning was the open/boys 50m backstroke which saw Partlett again pick up a bronze.

The afternoon started with the open/boys 200m freestyle, Marshall Dawe competed in this and picked up a bronze medal. The boys 50m butterfly saw a silver medal for Horus Hui and another bronze for Partlett. Morris finished off a very successful meet with a bronze in the girls 50m freestyle. Partlett won bronze in the boys 100m backstroke and Nancy Preece finished the meet off in style with a silver medal in the girls 200m backstroke.

In total 42 personal bests were achieved, 13 new events completed and 26 medals earned. The club was supported by coaches, team managers and officials.
