Great community effort is recognised

-

EIGHT years ago we started Tamworth and Lichfield Pamper Hampers.

A place for creating unused, unwanted toiletries and ‘smellies’ and making them into beautiful hampers of self esteem and wellbeing for people who range from having a torrid year to others that perhaps may not get a Christmas present.

This year alone we made over

200 hampers and 70 men’s wellness packs. Each basket is full of amazing products all donated by members of the public or sponsors Nivea.

Nivea this year gave us thousands of pounds worth of items and came to see the day our 25 volunteers put them together. The hampers each worth around £70 - £100 have gone to charities that will be distributing them to the people that need them: Families First, Tamworth CIC,

Tesco Community Champion, Tamworth Wellbeing and Cancer Centre, St Giles in the Community, Morrisons Community Champion, Dr Milleys Lichfield, Homestart, No 8, Changes, Santa’s Little Helpers, Andys Man Club, Three Peaks School, Tamworth Hot Shop, Tamworth Pantry and the Hygiene Bank to name a few are all beneficiaries. We also raised £180 for Santa’s Little Helpers.

But we could not do this without the public being so generous and businesses that support us with collecting stations. These include: Tamworth Tap, Peel Medical Practice, Lumberjax Axe Throwing, Christophers and the Peel Hotel, Evolve Salon, Scolmore Group, CR MOT, Pi-kem, Fallen from Grace Tattoo, Sticky Fingers Café, Advantage House, Chamber of Commerce, Chamber of Trade and Commerce, Julie Nicholls and Slimming World Tamworth, Tamworth Cycling Club, Advantage Networking Group, Coton Green Ladies Club, Bucklands End Lane GP surgery, Ruth Redgate of Hunneypot Cottage Bakery, Linda Weir, Chameleon Health and

Safety, Tesco Lichfield c/o

Charlotte Aspley, Morrisons Wilnecote c/o Natasha Brotheridge and No 8.

It’s been a great community effort that cannot go unnoticed.

The campaign generated over £20,000 worth of hygiene goods in just four weeks.

Money cannot buy what these hampers of self worth mean to people that receive them. Thank you for your support, thank you Nivea who now sponsor and support our event and people who wrap our baskets and donate wrapping paper.

We hope to be back bigger next year. To be involved with a drop off station or follow the last few year’s events go onto our Facebook page ‘Tamworth and Lichfield Pamper Hampers’ .

We have now been recognised by Rishi Sunak as he has chosen Diane and Team Hamper as his daily

Point of Light campaign. I have accepted this on behalf of everyone involved at Team Pamper Hamper. Diane Bridgen, Central Hub Logistics Ltd.

John was the Master of Ceremonies and kept on telling Christmas Cracker jokes at every opportunity.

He had told the audience to shout out “Oh not another one” when he was about to tell them, much to the delight of the children who really got involved in the shouting out.

It was nice to see the church full at this time of year. Congratulations John Harper. I hope we can look forward to the same next year with some new jokes if possible! Mike Stocking
