Memory event taking shape in Whiting Bay

-

A huge turnout is expected at a Whiting Bay Memories reunion next month.

The event is being held on Saturday July 16 at the village hall to reunite old friends and families, and to share stories and memories to preserve for future generations to enjoy.

Guests are expected from all over Scotland and many are flying in for the reunion from abroad.

Whiting Bay Memories is a Facebook group created in 2012 by Barbara I’Anson, and has taken only three years to reach a membership of 700. Many people have contributed to the group by adding an amazing collection of photographs and memorabilia with hundreds of images to enjoy.

Eleanor Lockhart, a founding member of the group, said: ‘Some of the photos are just out of this world. All the images cover a substantial timeline, going all the way back to the early 1900s. We have old films of Whiting Bay that we are going to be showing as well. We’re hoping for a big turnout as the day kicks off the Whiting Bay gala week.’

The reunion will consist of three events throughout the day, including the free exhibition at 2pm, a licensed buffet dinner at 6pm, courtesy of the Sandwich Station, and a licensed dance with the Arranach Ceilidh Band and live band The Vests at 8.30pm.

Storytelling of treasured memories will also be held at the Big Blether Cafe in the village hall at 11.30am by older generations and a drone provided by Mark West will take a picture of all in attendance that afternoon.

Whiting Bay Primary School will be open to former students throughout the day, which, it is hoped, will bring in a lot of alumni to the event.

Tickets can be purchased from Arran Eco Savvy Community Shop in Whiting Bay or online from Arran Events. All proceeds from the events will go to Whiting Bay and Districts Improvements Association and Whiting Bay Village Hall.
