Weakened Northend put to the sword by on-fire Brodick

-

Brodick 14 Northend 0

Brodick defeated Northend on Monday night in a one sided battle largely due to a significantly weakened Northend team.

They were hurt by six players being unavailable and coach Chris Trail having to use some younger, less experienced players.

Brodick, playing at home for the first time since winning the league last season, were in fighting spirit right from kick off, possibly defeating Northend in the first 10 minutes with three quickfire goals. The first two came from the right boot of Archie McNicol and the third a crisp finish from Toby Wingham, who ironically plays through the middle.

Midge-infested

This resulted in the Brodick support at junior Monday night football singing ‘There’s only one Archie McNicol’ and ‘You’re getting sacked in the morning’ towards a very dejected Chris Trail in the midge -infested Northend dugout.

Brodick continued to play some great three-touch football with Greg McRae stepping out from the back to join Iain ‘Keeno’ Keen and captain Matthew Dobson in pulling the strings in the middle of the park. A further four goals came before half time with the score standing at 7-0, Toby with four and Archie with three.

The second half continued in the same vein and without any target up top, and the gap between defence and midfield getting wider, the Brodick onslaught continued. A further seven goals followed with the pick being a great Brodick move culminating in Alistair ‘Super Ali’ McMillan turning the Northend left back inside out and whipping the ball in for Toby to miraculously finish with his left ‘standing’ foot.

Clean game

The game was well refereed by William Sillars of Shiskine and a clean game resulted in no cards being dished out, possibly due to Babbies McNeil being off on a romantic summer break.

The goalscorers were: Toby Wingham (six), Archie McNicol (six), Ian Keen and Alistair McMil- lan, and man of the match was Toby Wingham.

This Monday the fixtures see Brodick at home to Southend and Lamlash at home to Shiskine. Both games kick off at 6.30pm.
