Summer sessions on community land

-

Summer sessions are being held on the community land this summer in Whiting Bay where everyone is invited to join in on the fun, learn something new and to see the latest developments in the area.

As part of the initiative to utilise and transform 80 acres of disused farmland into a wildlife-friendly allotment area and orchard, as well as creating a wide range of recreational and educational resources on the land, the initiative will be hosting a series of sessions for people to make use of and enjoy the land.

Starting on Tuesday July 12, between 11am and 1pm during the school holidays, children and their parents can enjoy the outdoors with a host of creative activities in the growing area.

After the holidays these sessions will become a monthly group.

A growing group also takes place every Wednesday at 2pm where local growers network and learn valuable tips from others. Allotment owners generally attend these but anyone with an interest in growing is welcome to join, including prospective allotment owners of all abilities.

Every Saturday there will also be a workshop on the community land which promises something for everyone, with topics ranging from green woodworking through to herbal first aid and composting. Session workers and fellow green-fingered enthusiasts are always on hand and happy to share their skills and experience.

The land is there for the enjoyment of everyone and, with the wide array of events on offer, now is the perfect time to visit and take advantage of the great outdoors and the skills that are being shared.

The Arran Community Land Initiative is signposted off Golf Course Road in Whiting Bay. Take along refreshments, waterproofs and sturdy shoes. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. For further details, check the Facebook page or email developments@arranland.org.
