A Daisy double at the riding
Undaunted by the heavy rains of the day before, junior members of the Arran Riding Club attended the hastily-rescheduled junior show where a showjumping and fancy dress competition was held at the Mayish on Monday evening.
Winning a Daisy double were Daisy McNamara who took the champion title on Kizzy while the reserve champion went to Daisy Amsing on Beauty.
The fancy dress saw lots of ingenious and creative entries which made the decision for judge Jennie Williams incredibly difficult but it was agreed that Annie West and Rosie McNamara would eventually fly off together with the winners title on Paebal dressed as Pegasus.
Next Jennie had prepared a showjumping course for all combinations to test themselves against.
Everybody got the chance to go for a clear round and a timed round, and as usual, Jennie patiently took the time to get the best out of every combination.
All the practice of the different obstacles at pony club camp finally paid off in the Handy Pony, which was the next event, where all of the ponies took the stepping stones in their stride, navigating the bends with great success, and sailing under the low branches.
Finally the field was cleared for the grand finale, the gymkhana games.
The races test speed and accuracy, and required nerves of steel. These were hotly contested, with three heats for each race, resulting in a nail biting final but most importantly all of the kids and all of the ponies thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
Organisers thanked everyone who participated and especially those that helped at the event and who made the day such an enjoyable success.
