Join in a week of spiritual exploration

-

From Sunday, July 17 to Sunday, July 24 the Scottish Episcopal Church on Arran is sponsoring a week of events with the theme: ‘Arran contemplation: exploring spirituality, creativity and silence’.

Though there will be daily services throughout the week, the aim is to appeal to as wide a public as possible, and many of the events will be of interest to those who are neither Episcopalians nor even committed Christians. The week will be led by Canon Simon Mackenzie, in charge of St Margaret’s in Whiting Bay, but based in Lochgilphead. He will be assisted for the week by Jonathan Livingstone, an outstanding student training for the ministry with the Scottish Episcopal Institute.

Events will include a ‘conversation’ in Whiting Bay Hall between representatives of the arts on Arran, not all believers by any means, and Canon Mackenzie, with the theme ‘creativity, silence and the spirit’, as well as a talk by Jonathan Livingstone in Brodick Library entitled ‘entering silence’.

There will also be a film in Corrie Village Hall, a contemplative walk in Sannox Glen, and a pilgrimage to Holy Isle, with a picnic. The week will be launched at a special service in St Margaret’s Church by the Rt Rev Kevin Pearson, Bishop of Argyll and The Isles. All are welcome to attend the events, which are free of charge, as well as to the services.

Full details of times and venues are on posters round the island and inquiries can be made on 302701.
