Local golfer picked for Team Scotland

-

A Whiting Bay man has been selected to represent Scotland in a tournament at the Cardrona Resort and Hotel near Peebles next month where he will compete in the Auld Enemy Cup.

John Pennycott will join disabled golfers from France, Netherlands, Germany and the USA when the event takes place from Sunday through to Wednesday, September 11 to 14.

The tournament will consist of foursome, fourball and singles match play competitions and players who have been selected from the Scottish Order of Merit Championship Tables will represent all disability categories when they compete for team Scotland.

Delighted

John said: ‘ I am delighted to be selected again for the Auld Enemies Cup at Cardrona against Disabled Golf England.

‘It is always amazing and inspiring playing with golfers who have overcome their disability in such a positive way, from blind golfers to arm and leg amputees. The golf is great with many a smile along the way, but everybody is there to win!’

Scotland Team Captain, Alan Robertson from Stirling said: ‘Scotland will try to defend the title, after we won the Auld enemies Cup down at the Shire Golf club in London in 2014 by a good margin.

‘I have picked a good squad, so let’s hope we can win it convincingly and send them homeward to think again.’
