Hospital league raises nearly £5,500 to buy equipment
The Hospital Supporters’ League had a successful coffee morning last Saturday in the Whiting Bay village hall, raising a gross figure only pennies short of £725.
The bottle of wine for the winning quiz was won by John Steed and guess the weight of the cake was won by Margaret Bradshaw.
The committee was pleased with the reward for its efforts. Sandra Hall and Jeanette Cusack said that they were extremely grateful for the generous support that island residents, businesses and shops had given to their tombola stall, while Janette Head was very appreciative of the help she and her team had received at the home baking.
Thanks
Secretary Sheila MacLeod added: ‘I want to thank all the non-committee members who helped, including Ann Rhead for her photographs. I also want to record our thanks for the continued support the hospital supporters receive from the Arran community.’
Since November last year, the league has been able to purchase goods to the value of £5,472.61 for the Arran War Memorial Hospital, the Arran Medical Centre and the community nurses and physiotherapy department at the hospital. One of the biggest single donations was new chairs for the Shiskine surgery at a cost of £2,426.76.
The league purchases items that contribute to diagnosis, patient care and staff morale. These items have included blood pressure meters and physiotherapy equipment, as well as other medical diagnosing equipment and furniture and a computer for Arran patient discharge prescription records.
