New initiative aims to boost junior golf

-

An action plan is to be drawn up in a bid to encourage more youngsters on Arran to play golf.

Organisers of the new initiative want to hear from parents, golfers, coaches, and anyone else with an interest in the sport, as to how they can make it more attractive to young people.

Two initial meetings are proposed, one on each side of the island, where ideas will be drawn up into an action plan to provide youngsters with the opportunity to experience the game. Initially the plan is to start with children from P5 upwards and will expand over time.

The initiative is still in its very early stages and the meetings will hopefully gather enough suggestions, ideas and opinions to help drive the plans forward.

The first meeting will be held at Shiskine Golf Club on Thursday November 24 and the second will take place in Brodick on Tuesday November 29. Both meetings will start at 6pm and tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.

Joint organiser Viv Parks said: ‘Everyone is most welcome to attend either or both meetings. We cannot progress this plan without your ideas, suggestions and help, so please take this opportunity to air your views and opinions.’

She is being assisted in the initiative by Ann May who added: ‘It would be tremendous to have input from all the clubs on the island and we hope to see some representatives at the meetings.’
