The Arran Banner

Award-winning Ayrshire film given free screening in Brodick

-

Arran residents will be able to see an award-winning documentary, filmed in Ayrshire and made by an Ayrshire film director, on the Screen Machine on Monday March 13 at 1.30pm. Entrance is free for this screening.

The Closer We Get is a bittersweet film that delves into an astonishing story of broken dreams, loyalty and, perhaps, redemption.

It is told by a reluctantly dutiful daughter, Karen Guthrie, who was working as a film-maker in London when her mother Ann had a devastating stroke that saw Karen return to her Ayrshire hometown to care for her.

But Karen isn’t the only one who returns in crisis.

Her father, the endearing but unfathomable Ian, also reappears after years of separation from Ann.

Reunited unexpectedly, Karen seizes her camera to go under the skin of the family story before it is too late to come to terms with the aftermath of the secret her father tried, and failed, to keep from them all, and, in the process Karen discovers that Ann’s stroke has, in fact, thrown them a lifeline.

The documentary has won numerous awards and is highly acclaimed by critics.

It is 87 minutes long and has a PG certificate.

The Screen Machine will be visiting Brodick from Friday March 10 to Monday 13 March and will be parked at the Auchrannie Hotel.
