Skinnymalinks shed pounds for charity

£867 collected for Mary’s Meals charity

-

Arran Skinnymalinks had a post-festive period weighin where members collectively lost 110lbs and raised £867.75 for the Mary’s Meals charity. Weigh-ins took place across the island at Lamlash, Brodick, Corrie, Shiskine and Lochranza with the help of Alison Page, Joan Stewart, Faye Waterlow and Shona Dunsmuir.

The collective weight loss of 110 lbs - or seven and a half stone - was achieved in six weeks with enough money being raised to feed 62 starving children for a whole school year through Mary’s Meals.

Mary’s Meals volunteer Alison Page said: ‘Congratulations to every single person who has shed the pounds and who helped to raise funds for such an important cause.

‘That is certainly a result in my book. Thank you all so very much for your donations as well as the donations of food/toiletries for the All Churches Together foodbank.

‘A huge thank you must also go to Lamlash, Brodick and Shiskine churches, Arran Active, Isle of Arran Distillery and Breagha Holistic Beauty for the use of their premises.’

In recognition and thanks of all of the hard work undertaken by the group, representatives from Mary’s Meals will be visiting Arran on Sunday April 2 to meet some of the people who took part to say thank you for all their efforts and to encourage more people to get involved with the charity. Details of the visit can be obtained from Alison by email at: alison@routestoflourish.com.
