Rescue dog Scarlett is a Crufts winner

-

From rescue dog to Crufts winner, that’s the remarkable achievement of Arran Yorkshire terrier Scarlett.

Scarlett, also known as Fallen Angel at Auchenrowan, was rescued by Lamlash owner Margaret Kay two years ago, yet achieved a very highly commended accolade at the prestigious Crufts dog show last week.

The placing, which equated to fifth place, comes after an arduous process that regular competitor and nine-year veteran of Crufts Margaret went through to have Scarlett registered to compete.

DNA testing

The process to qualify Scarlett involved DNA testing, two reviews, a mountain of paperwork and two placings at dog shows before she could qualify to compete at Crufts.

After a year-long battle to have Scarlett placed, she competed in the very competitive class of post graduate bitch which is a strong category featuring many dogs which have been shown and campaigned since puppyhood.

Margaret said: ‘I am delighted with Scarlett being very highly commended. She might not quite match my other contender Niamh who came third in her class last year but as far as I am concerned, she was the best in show.’
