Eilidh re-elected to youth parliament

-

Eilidh Macpherson has been reselected as one of the four new Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYP) who have been elected to represent North Ayrshire.

Following a vote from March 3 to 17, four candidates out of a total of 10, all aged between 12 and 25, were selected after putting forward their manifestos to prospective voters outlining why they deserved to take on the important role.

The newest batch of young politicians was announced by North Ayrshire’s Returning Officer Elma Murray on Friday March 17.

The results saw Eilidh Macpherson from Whiting Bay being elected to be the voice of their peers in Cunninghame North, along with Aaran McDonald from Kilwinning and Chloe Robertson from Irvine being elected to represent the views of young people in Cunninghame South and Cadely Paton from Dalry. A second Arran candidate, Leigh Boyd, just missed out in the vote.

In their roles as MSYPs, Eilidh, Aaran, Chloe, Cadely and Eilidh will take part in local youth forums, consult with their peers on a range of issues, help out with training sessions and lobby senior politicians on things that matter the most to young people in their constituencies. They will officially take on the role of MSYP in June this year, for a two-year period.

Speaking about the elections, North Ayrshire’s Returning Officer Elma Mur- ray said: ‘It is encouraging to see how passionate and driven our young people are to make a difference in our communities.

‘The Scottish Youth Parliament plays an important role in North Ayrshire. It provides us with a great opportunity to engage with and listen to young people.’
