Next stop Kilimanjaro for intrepid Arran trio

-

The community theatre was the venue for a fundraising tea dance last Saturday.

Two Arran High School pupils and their teacher have been running a series of fundraisers for a trip to Tanzania in June which will see them helping to build and develop residential centres for abandoned children. Brian Donlin, who teaches geography at Arran High School, will travel with Meagan Bennett and Ben Downing to the Kilimanjaro region where they will join the Vine Trust project which helps communities living in poverty.

As part of the fundraising, the trio have held a dress down day at the high school and the tea dance, where visitors enjoyed tea and cakes, a raffle and a spot of dancing.

A bingo night is planned on Wednesday May 17 from 7pm to 9pm and everyone is invited to win some prizes and help raise money for a truly life-changing experience. Entry is £1 with each bingo card also costing £1.

Mr Donlin said: ‘This is a fantastic opportunity for both the pupils and myself to travel to Tanzania and participate in the excellent work being undertaken by the Vine Trust but also to broaden the horizons of some of the young people of Arran.’

The group leaves on Saturday June 3 and would be interested to hear from anyone who would like to sponsor the trip or donate towards the costs involved.
