Work on show at Quilt Arran exhibition

-

Quilt Arran has just staged its first exhibition and it has proved a big success.

The group of around 20 ladies was formed four years ago and meets every week in Lamlash to work together, share ideas and knowledge and enjoy the art of quilt making.

The three-day exhibit held last weekend attracted both interested locals and visitors as well as a number of quilt group parties from across Ayrshire including the Troon quilters group, which Quilt Arran visit regularly.

Leader Alison Thompson said: ‘When the group began, most were quilting beginners supported by several experienced members. I think this, our first exhibition, shows how far members have come.

‘We are delighted that quilting groups from across Ayrshire have taken the trouble to come across to Arran for the day to see our work.’

During the show visitors were able to chose their favourite quilted design in a competition set by Alison for an A4 work of a favourite Arran scene.

Quilt Arran also holds a Linus Day to make quilts for Project Linus UK, some of which were on display.

Linus quilts are named after the security blanket-toting character from the Peanuts comic strip to provide security and comfort through quilts and blankets.

The quilts made by Quilt Arran are donated to Ayrshire hospitals, especially the children’s ward and neonatal unit at Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock. Donations towards future quilts are always welcome.

Quilt Arran meets every Thursday at 2pm in Lamlash Fire Station and all are welcome. Anyone who would like further information can contact Alison Thompson on 600764 or email: naniali@icloud.com
