50,000 pennies to be spent on toilets plan

-

A committee dedicated to saving Whiting Bay’s facilities is flush thanks to an Ardrossan builder’s merchant.

A chance conversation between an Arran customer and the manager of Howdens Kitchens led to the firm gifting a cheque for £500 to the Whiting Bay and District Improvements Committee to assist with the upkeep of the village toilets.

The committee, which has adopted the toilet facilities, is still in the early stages of deciding the fate of the building and while it is still undecided if they are to be replaced or refurbished, an extensive group of volunteers are determined to keep the facilities open.

Howdens representative Vince Gilligan said: ‘We regularly undertake work in Arran, which is part of our local area. As an integral part of the community, we like to support and engage the community and often contribute to worthy causes.

‘We have contributed to the foodbank and the Arran War Memorial Hospital and we see this donation as yet another appropriate and worthwhile cause.’

Mr Gilligan, who is regularly on Arran, either with work or through golfing, presented committee members with the cheque last week during a visit. The donation will go towards keeping the toilets open.
