In loving memory of Christine Iutz
Christine Iutz died on Sunday April 30 after a severe stroke on Thursday April 27. Born in Normanton in 1934, she graduated in 1956 in English at Bedford College, London University, where she met Vic.
They married in 1958 and Christine started her teaching career. She taught in Yorkshire and London and was highly respected by her colleagues and pupils.
She was proud that in the late 1970s, on three occasions, young men in their 20s returned to her school to thank her for the start she had given them, unprecedented at her comprehensive school. Christine loved the English language and would pursue companies to director level to get incorrectly spelt public notices corrected.
In 1979, she had severe pancreatitis and, after four months in hospital, tried to resume teaching part time.
In spite of the strong will and persistence evident throughout her life, this was not possible.
In 1980 she and Vic bought the Harbour Shop and moved to Blackwaterfoot, which they knew well after many happy holidays.
Here Michael joined them and together they ran the shop for 26 years, happily joining in with island life. Vic and Michael have innumerable happy memories of a wonderful wife, mother and housewife and wish to thank this warm community for the many dozens of cards and condolences which are such a comfort at this dramatic change in their lives.
They also specially thank everyone at Shiskine Surgery for such care and consideration since 1980.
Thanks to Jean, Angus and the Hendry’s for the best care on Thursday May 11.
