Day centre raises funds for the Sandpiper Trust
Users of Stronach Day Services held a coffee afternoon last week where they raised funds and presented a cheque to the Sandpiper Trust.
The day centre, which is based at Montrose House in Brodick, provides support and social care for older people aged 65 and over. They meet regularly, holding meetings every six weeks where members unanimously decided on the Sandpiper Trust as their nominated beneficiary for their coffee morning.
Receiving £179 on behalf of the charity, Dr Greg Hamill thanked the residents and users and talked about the valuable work that the charity undertakes. Established 15 years ago, and with the assistance of BASICS Scotland, which provides emergency training, the Sandpiper Trust provides portable medical equipment in a large bag for dealing with emergency situations. These bags, along with defibrillators, are used by the doctors and first responders and other emergency personnel on the island.
The staff of Montrose House and Stronach Day Services, who organised the event, which included a game of bingo and a singalong, thanked all of the residents, family and friends who attended the coffee afternoon and for their contribution to the Sandpiper Trust which, they said, was appreciated and which would be put to good use in the community.
