-

Four Arran friends have completed their first triathlon to raise cash for charity.

Lynsey Cuthbertson, Jacqui McFarlane, Gwen McNicol and Emma Campbell all took part in their first Olympic distance triathlon. A one-mile swim, 40K cycle over the Ross Southend loop and 10K run,

They were among the 400 athletes who took part in the fourth annual Arran- Man festival held in Lamlash on Sunday June 18.

They have been open water swimming together since January. Jacqui has been raising money for her friend’s wee girl Kim McMaster who was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome last year, a debilitating neurological condition causing multiple disabilities and medical complexities, mostly effecting girls be- tween the ages of one and two years. The money she has being raising will go towards the research already being done to find treatments and reverse the syndrome.

She has raised an amazing £1,335 so far through her Just Giving page. This is 66 per cent of her £2,000 target. Her page is still open to donations to help her reach her target. Kim and her mum Kate, who live near Glasgow, were there to cheer Jacqui on.

The results were: Lynsey Cuthbertson 5th female and 26th over all in 2hrs 53 mins, Jacqui McFarlane 21st and 70th over all in 3hrs 33 mins, Gwen McNicol joint 45th with Emma Campbell and joint 78th overall.
