An intimate evening with Christine Bovill

- John Roberts.

Award-winning chanteuse Christine Bovill, who has visited Arran before with a sell-out concert of Edith Piaf songs in Brodick Hall, is returning next week.

She will return on Saturday July 8, this time playing the community theatre at Arran High School, starting at 7.30pm. Instead of her Edith Piaf show, which was also a runaway success at the Edinburgh Fringe, Bovill has instead promised an intimate evening of song, with a vibrant and original collection of tear-stained ballads, alongside infectious Americana and Cajun sounds.

Born in Glasgow, Bovill now has an international reputation as a performer and as a songwriter. She has appeared on radio and TV, and her self-penned play Christine Bovill’s Piaf was highly rated by the critics.

Her voice, ‘ sonic combination of dark chocolate and cigarettes’ has mesmerised audiences and critics alike.

According to The Sunday Times’ critic, it is: ‘Something that will stay with you for the rest of your life ... I wasn’t prepared for the effect her voice would have on me’.

Tickets for the Isle of Arran Music Society concert are available on the door on the night, in advance from Inspirations of Arran in Brodick, or online from www.arranevents.com. As usual, children will admitted free, with their accompanying adult. In the theatre, there will be easy-access front row seats available if required.
