Golfers enjoy longest day challenge
Four intrepid golfers have raised more than £1,300 by taking part in a 72-hole golfing challenge called Macmillan’s Longest Day, playing four rounds of golf on one day in aid of the cancer charity.
Dougie Macfarlane, Iain Murchie, Norrie McIntyre and Lamlash Golf Club captain Scott Campbell all started the epic challenge at 7.30am on Wednesday June 21.
Dougie picks up the story, saying: ‘On the day the sponsorship forms were filling nicely and the weather looked like it might be kind to us. The first two rounds went by quickly, aided by bacon rolls and coffee from Sarah in the clubhouse, then we decided to break for a quick pint and lunch, again presented by Sarah.
‘With the ladies teeing off at 1pm we decided to play back nine first which was a good call as we didn’t in- terfere with their medal in the slightest. We enjoyed another pint stop after the third round then we headed back out about half four for the final one.

‘At about 7.30pm we reached the final green with wives and partners on the club balcony to cheer us in.
‘After lots of quite emotional man hugging, we headed to the clubby and Lamlash Bay Hotel for well-earned refreshments.
‘So far a total of around £1,300 has been raised but sheets and links are still up, so we are hoping to possibly reach the £1,500 mark.’
