The sun shone on the visitors and the collection of gleaming machines on display at the Arran Heritage Museum’s busiest motorcycle show since it began five years ago.

On display were 45 motorcycles, two trikes and five other vehicles, includ- ing two outstanding pre 1955 MG cars belonging to enthusiasts Jan Targosz of Milgarvie and Bill Martin of Lamlash. In the motorbike section, ranging from classics to up-to-date 2017 machines, were an assortment of on road, off road and racing bikes, including recent Goodwood contender – a 1979 Yamaha TZ 350 owned by Lenny Hartley – which won first prize in the racing category.

Organiser Lenny, who had six motorcycles on display, also exhibited the oldest motorcycle in show which was a 1929 BSA S29 Sloper Delux 595cc – believed to be a pre-production prototype.

Organiser Ronnie Logan thanked Barry Brian from Birmingham who judged the entries and his organising colleagues for ensuring such a fantastic turnout. Ronnie said: ‘Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our most successful show to date. Over 50 per cent of the motorcycles on show were from locals, showing that the emphasis was on a good variety, in all conditions, rather than a display of pristine bikes with shining chrome.

Like minded

‘The good turnout this year will hopefully encourage others to bring along their machines and to come and meet like-minded people at next year’s show.’

Adding to the allure of rare, interesting and unusual vehicles was the Arran Pipe Band who entertained the audience, while Cafe Rosaburn ensured that all visitors were well fed while seated under the marquee in the well-kept gardens.

The full results of the prize winners are as follows; Classic, 1 Ian Leitch - AJS 250 , 2 Colin Turbett - 1949 BSA. Post Classic: 1 Stewart Miller - Honda CX 500, 2 Ricky Kennedy - Suzuki ST 750.
