Lottery funding boost for Arran United junior football team

-

A junior football team on Arran has benefited from a share of the £3.8 million in National Lottery funds which is being shared by almost 500 groups across Scotland.

This community-based cash boost comes from National Lottery Awards for All Scotland which provides grants from £500 to £10,000 with funds raised by the National Lottery. sportscotland, the national agency for sport in Scotland, has chosen the latest sport and physical activity community projects across the country which will benefit from this investment.

Thanking

Arran United FC, based in Lamlash, is just one of the groups thanking National Lottery players and sportscotland. Their grant of £4,800 means they can further develop their health and wellbeing programme to encourage more children between five and 11 years old to regularly participate in football.

The windfall ensures grassroots sport clubs in Scotland, delivering everything from wheelchair football to kayaking and American football to shinty, will now get the green light to go ahead.

Stewart Harris, chief executive, sportscotland, said: ‘At sportscotland, we believe in the power of sport and its ability to bring communities together.

‘Almost £4 million of National Lottery Awards for All Scotland funding announced through this initiative will make a huge difference to local groups like Arran United FC with ambition to provide more and better opportunities to take part in sport and physical activity in the heart of their communities.’
