Unleash your creativity from the biscuit tin

-

Budding artists are invited to delve into the biscuit tin as part of an Arran Open Studios (AOS) initiative encouraging people to unleash their creativity.

The launch of the Biscuit Tin Initiative, supported by Paterson Arran, has seen the distribution of biscuit tins filled with art materials in cafés and hotels and various other establishments across the island. Organisers of the Open Studios are inviting visitors who have a spare moment, and the inclination, to pen a poem, make a drawing, share a meditation using the materials supplied in the biscuit tin. Pencils, erasers, pens and blank postcards are all provided within the tin, and everyone of all ages and abilities is invited to take part.

Urging those interested not to be shy or overly self-conscious, co-organiser Tim Pomeroy said: ‘It is not a competition, it’s simply an invitation to be free and creative, to allow your mind to wander and be open to whatever moves you. There is no subject matter, it is not about Arran – though it can be if you want – it is about whatever you are feeling at that given moment in time and we welcome sketches as much as poetry or reflections on any subjects.’

It is hoped that at the end of AOS weekend, from August 11 to 14, the biscuit tins will be gathered in and the resulting poems, drawings and thoughts will be exhibited somewhere centrally.

Organisers believe that all people have something artistic to share and the Biscuit Tin Initiative is an ideal bite-sized opportunity to explore this.
