Saturday July 15, championship final, Todd Jameson vs Neil Stewart. The final was played in a day of rain with changing wind patterns, and at times gusty, which fortunately for all concerned cleared up for the later stages of the match. Despite the weather conditions there was a good turnout of spectators who witnessed a match of impressive golf displayed by the contestants. The standard of golf would have been impressive in good conditions, but in the conditions of Saturday it was remarkable. It also became a game of two halves validating the 36-hole format.

In the afternoon, during the worst of the rain, Neil, who beat D Macfarlane at the 19th hole, recorded 16 pars and two bogeys (66) one of which included a lost ball to end the first 18 holes five up on Todd who scored 72, with a ball out of bounds.

In the evening they halved the first in par, at the second Neil won with a par to go six up then proceeded to lose his tee shot at the third. Somehow Todd came alive and produced outstanding golf, considering the conditions, winning the next four holes, halved the seventh lost the eighth and won the ninth following a three-wood drive, which reached about 330 yards on the right of the 349 yard green. As a result Neil was two up after 27 holes.

The next two were halved par-birdie then Todd took off with a run of threes squaring the game at the 13th, the next two were halved par, bogey. At the 16th with a very tricky pin position Todd came off best to go one up and another par at 17 secured the match for Todd. For the 71 holes completed Neil recorded 33+33+32 for 8 holes + 31= 129 Todd 35 +37+ 34+27= 133.

During the presentation of the Championship Cup the green staff were congratulated on the condition of the course. Despite the day’s conditions there were few times that players had to take relief due to casual water.
