Photo contest explores the human-animal bond
To mark the opening of the new Arran Vets premises in Knowe Road, Brodick, the practice ran a photography competition with the theme of The human-animal bond.
The competition was judged by broadcaster and journalist Kirsty Wark ahead of the opening, as recently reported in the Banner.
Arran Vets owner Charlotte Clough explained: ‘For the competition all the photographs had to be taken on Arran and had to show the importance of animals in our lives.
‘Using the pictures entered, I created a display for the waiting room to show the wide range of animals with their owners on Arran in 2017, and also one canvas to compare with photos courtesy of Arran Heritage Museum to show animals and humans on Arran in the past.’
The two top winners won a year’s worth of tick and flea treatment for their cat or dog. The three runners up won one tick and flea treatment for their cat or dog or a £20 voucher for use at the practice.
First prize was ‘Taking shelter’ by Jackie Newman showing her spaniel Bowser sheltering from the snow on a winter walk. Second prize, ‘Armfuls of blackie lambs’ by Laura Currie, showed Wallace Currie and Jess at Bridge Farm, Shiskine at lambing time.
Joint runners up were Helen Logan with ‘John and Jack’, of a Pirnmill sunset with her son John and new puppy Jack; Vicki Yuill ‘A love like no other’ with her daughter and horse in a meadow; and Clare Breslin, ‘Molly at the Witches Step Casistail Abhail’, showing new puppy Molly in the mountains.
