Brodick ferry terminal has opening postponed

-

The official opening ceremony of the new Brodick ferry terminal has been postponed this coming Monday as it would have clashed with the funeral of Lady Jean Fforde.

Port owner Caledonian Maritime Asset Ltd (CMAL) took the decision earlier in the week to call off the event after it became aware of the conflict of timing.

Finance secretary Derek Mackay had been due to open the new £30 million terminal just 20 minutes ahead of the start of Lady Jean’s funeral.

The opening is now being rescheduled and is likely to take place in mid-November. It means that the new pier could come into operation ahead of the official opening ceremony and as early as next week. In a statement CMAL said: ‘As a mark of respect following the sad passing of Lady Jean Fforde, CMAL has decided to postpone the official opening of Brodick ferry terminal by Derek MacKay MSP and Humza Yousaf MSP, previously scheduled for Monday October 23. Our thoughts and condolences are with the family of Lady Fforde at this sad time.’

Meanwhile, a book of condolence for Lady Jean will be available to sign at the North Ayrshire Council Keep it A to B celebration event which is going ahead as planned on Monday in Brodick Hall from 3pm to 6pm. The event is to mark the success of the ferry campaign earlier this year.

After Monday, the book of condolence will be available to sign for two weeks in Brodick Library, before being presented to the family.
