Back to basics for Sinbad pantomime
The Arran pantomime is going back to basics this year – oh yes, it is!
It has an Arabian theme as it takes us on Sinbad’s Desert Adventure a panto the Lamlash Drama Group and friends presented a number of years ago, this time with a few additions.
This will be the club’s 37th panto, starting with Aladdin back in 1981, and after the success of last year’s Beauty and the Beast, which was a diversion from the typical ‘panto’, the group has decided to revert to true panto this year and perhaps alternate the styles yearly.
But it has not been all plain sailing as director/ producer Maureen Smith explained: ‘Sadly we had to reshuffle the cast only three weeks ago due to one of our members having to pull out unexpectedly and we shall miss her very much, but she’ll be back next time I’m sure.
‘This caused a major headache but as they say “the show must go on”, and after a few frantic reshuffles, we got there and will be ready to go in two weeks time.
‘I always say this is the last time, but they won’t let me stop. The youngsters love taking part even though it’s an adult club, and we just keep going year in year out.
‘It’s a real team effort and I am always grateful to everyone who helps in whatever capacity,’ Maureen added.
The panto will be held in the community theatre, Lamlash on three nights from Thursday December 14 to Saturday December 16 at 7.30pm. There will also be a Saturday matinee at 2pm.
Tickets are only on sale at the KA Campus at Arran High School today and tomorrow (Saturday December 2 and Sunday December 3), and December 9 and 10, from 10am to 2pm. They will then be on sale at the door before performances.
