Brodick Co-op unveils £1 million overhaul
The Co-op is set to serve-up its new-look store in Brodick, following a landmark £1 million overhaul.
Launching today (Friday) the revamped Co-operative Food store will offer a wide range of fresh, healthy foods, hot food, meal ideas, award winning wines and essentials along with an in-store bakery and self-service tills to improve service times.
The two-month makeover, much of which was carried out overnight to avoid disruption to shoppers, has also seen the installation of five long-belt checkouts, walls of efficient chillers and coolers and a brand new heating system. There is also a new community room.
Members of the emergency services will cut the ribbon to mark the completion to works at the reopening ceremony which will also have lots of other attractions.
The new store will also bring a funding boost to local good causes – including Arran Mountain Rescue Team, Feis Arainn and Riding for Disabled Arran group – through the Co-op’s Membership scheme. Members receive a five per cent reward when buying own-branded products, and the Co-op donates a further one per cent to local good causes.
Further local good causes, charities and community groups can now apply to benefit from the Co-op’s Community Fund. Applications are invited from the area up until April 8.
Liz McLean, store manager, said: ‘We are delighted to be
undertaking such a significant investment in Brodick and we’re confident that the improvements will help us to better serve the community. It’s an exciting time for the whole team.’
Alan Campbell, regional manager, said: ‘The Co-op is moving forward with a clear purpose and momentum. Our ambition is to ensure the store is a local hub, a real asset for the community.
‘We also want shoppers to know that they can become a co-owner and member of their Co-op. Our members make a difference locally and simply by swiping their membership card when they shop with us they are raising much-needed funding for organisations in their area which contribute to improving local life.’
There are offers and promotions in and around the store to mark its launch and the community retailer also offers a 10 per cent discount to students on the Isle of Arran holding a Young Scot card.
The Co-op – which won the title of convenience retailer of the year at last year’s Retail Industry Awards – last month unveiled a £50million price investment programme to cut the cost of everyday essentials including fruit, vegetables, bread, fresh meat and ready meals, as well as household brand names.
