Arran Ladies secure fourth place in hockey league
The Arran Ladies are delighted to have finished fourth in division 3 of the West District Women’s Hockey League.
Separated by mere points, the final ranking depended on the outcome of a match between Ferguslie Ladies and Dumfries Ladies 2s, which saw Ferguslie defeating their opponents to finish in third place with 37 points, two points above Arran.
Heading the league table is Uddingston Clinetix Ladies 2s who have won 17 of their games, drew one and lost two and earning themselves 52 points. With just two games to play they cannot be overtaken.
Remarkable
The fourth place ranking is a remarkable achievement considering that the Arran Ladies only won the fourth division last year and were promoted to the third division for the current season. Putting up a determined fight the team have won 11 games, drawn two and lost seven.
Coach and vice captain Lorraine ‘Hurricane’ Hewie said: ‘It is a fantastic achievement from a small club, with limited players, officials and resources. Congratulations and well done to the whole club for digging deep and competing in another season, let alone a higher division.
Sportsmanship
‘This season proved tough, with far more experienced teams but Arran played with the same gumption, determination and true sportsmanship.
Here’s hoping that the club can continue and join the hockey league again in 2018/2019.’
The final two games of league will take place today (Saturday) between Milne Craig Clydesdale Western Ladies 6s and Ayr Ladies 2s and another match between Hillhead Ladies 4s and Milne Craig Clydesdale Western Ladies 5s. The outcomes of these games are not expected to alter the current league positions.
