Six-year-old’s plea to stop dog fouling
Six-year-old Rebecca Fergusson has brought her complaints about dog fouling straight to the offices of the Arran Banner.
Regular readers will know that week-in, weekout the Banner receives letters from our readers who like to share their opinions and address pertinent topics. But it is not every day that we receive a letter from a young girl who has only recently started learning to write.
The Fergusson family from Uplawmoor, who are regular visitors to Arran, were on the island earlier this month enjoying their first two-week break of the year in their caravan at Lamlash, taking long walks in the sunshine on the green and public areas around the village. However, owing to the large amount of dog dirt on the pavements and grass, dad John continually warned the children to ‘watch their feet’ so that they did not tread in any of the mess.
Back home in the warmth and comfort of their caravan, where Rebecca, who is in primary one at Uplawmoor Primary School, was practising her writing skills, her parents were surprised to see what the topic of her writing was about.
Written on a piece of paper were the words: ‘Some people’s dogs poo on the grass and the pavements.’ After chatting to her about what she had written, she asked her father to ‘tell the Arran Banner to see if they can stop it’,
As a result, the Banner received two copies of the letter, the original letter and a second version which young Rebecca thought she could improve on by making a special effort to rewrite her letter, just a little bit neater.
