Childhood memories of yesteryear on show
Pupils of the Enactus group at Arran High School put a lot of work and effort into staging their My Childhood event, which was held in the community theatre last Friday.
It featured an exhibition displaying a variety of toys, games and clothing from different decades stretching back to the 1940s, as well tea and coffee and home baking, giving visitors the chance to socialise and reminisce.
The event was also visited by pupils from the high school and Lamlash Primary School to give them an insight into the toys of yesteryear.
Arran has the only school Enactus group in the UK. Enactus is an international organisation that pairs entrepreneurship and philanthropy to develop sustainable and beneficial projects in communities.
Enactus has predominantly been for university students and business leaders to date but last year Glasgow Caledonian University contacted Arran High School and invited them to become a branch of its Enactus group.
At Arran High the group comprises of Jessica Miller, Natasha Murray, Chloe Brookes, Lauren Robertson, Rachel Janse Van Rensburg and Alexander Wilson.
Idea
They are presently looking the issues of mental health and loneliness, which was the idea behind the sharing of memories and artefacts from days gone by. The group has previously held a Christmas lunch and a film afternoon.
Members are also regular visitors to the McKelvie Road sheltered housing complex
where they offer residents companionship and practical help. They also have business adviser, Arran resident Jean McInnes, of international insurance and finance company AIG.
Jessica from the group said: ‘We would just like to say thank you to Enactus GCU group for its help, support and encouragement, and to everyone who lent items for the exhibition and who came along and supported us on the day.’
