Third charity challenge held in memory of Rob

-

Excitement is building for participants in this year’s annual Rob Worboys Arran Challenge with the addition of a host of new team entries who will be competing for the challenge cup.

The popular event, now in its third year, is organised by Rob Worboys’s colleagues at Cushman and Wakefield in honour of the young property agent’s who died suddenly in 2016, aged just 27.

The challenge will see participants cycling 55 miles around the island and then climbing the 2,866ft Goatfell. There is also an option to do a shorter version of the challenge with a 28-mile cycle prior to the ascent.

Teams from Aberdeen Standard Investments, ACCA, Corran Properties, Pinsent Masons, Dentons, New River Retail and the Royal Bank of Scotland are among those who have signed up to take part in the challenge on Friday June 22, with all money being raised going to a selection of worthy charities, including Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice and the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH).

Battle

There is expected to be a real battle for the Rob Worboys Challenge Cup this year, according to Stuart Dorward, Cushman and Wakefield’s Scottish head. He said: ‘Some of our more competitive client teams and members of staff are training every day and there is a lot of goodnatured rivalry with people hoping to beat their times from previous years.

‘We are delighted that so many clients and colleagues have got behind the challenge and signed up to take part again. I know it means a lot to Rob’s family and his friends, many of whom are attending. Rob is greatly missed.’

Rob was a keen sportsman and played American football for East Kilbride Pirates and took part in trials for the GB team. The events held in his name have already raised £40,000 for charity and it is hoped this year’s event will raise a further £10,000 breaking the £50,000 target.
