Chamber orchestra brings 50 musicians to Lamlash

-

A student-run chamber orchestra based at Glasgow University will bring more than 50 musicians to showcase their talents to a Lamlash audience.

The Kelvin Ensemble is part of the larger symphony orchestra of 95 students.

At the end of each term it performs a public concert, however, last year it decided to form an additional smaller chamber orchestra and after a successful tour of the Highlands last summer it will now be performing at three venues this year.

Starting in the Lake District, the orchestra will then travel to Arran to perform on Saturday June 2 at Lamlash community theatre, before returning home for a final concert in Glasgow.

The Kelvin Ensemble, conducted by John Grant, recently celebrated its 25th anniversary as an ensemble and performed an outstanding Russian-themed concert including Tchaikovsky’s epic 1812 Overture and Glazunov’s Symphony Number 5 in the university’s Bute Hall. This year’s programme will include Mendelssohn’s ‘Italian’ Symphony Number 4, Haydn’s ‘Clock’ Symphony Number 101 and Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll. Doors open at 7pm for the concert which starts at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available at the door priced £10 for adults and £5 for concessions and students. For more information about the upcoming concerts or the orchestra visit www.kelvin-ensemble.co.uk
