The Island Cheese Company
Producing award winning cheeses is not an easy task, but at Home farm in Brodick that is exactly what Arran’s Cheese Shop has been doing for nearly 25 years. With Arran Blue, Arran Camembert and Arran Brie cheeses winning Golds and silvers at the World and the British Cheese Awards -and the Cheese Shop’s Mustard Flavoured Cheddar being voted Best Scottish Retail Product - a commitment to quality has to be the principal motivation. As well as their own soft cheeses made in Blackwaterfoot, they produce a range of flavoured cheddars that are available at the Home farm shop and at various outlets on Arran and throughout Scotland.
First Milk
Award winning cheddar from the Torrylinn Creamery. Often referred to as Scotland in miniature the picturesque island of Arran is home to the award-winning Torrylinn Creamery. Here, Isle of Arran cheddar is lovingly hand-crafted by a small team of artisan cheese-makers using traditional methods passed down from generation to generation. Steeped in history and provenance, the Torrylinn Creamery was opened by King George VI in 1946, giving their cheddar the Royal seal of approval. Isle of Arran Cheddar is made by hand by five dedicated staff in open vats, using a time-honoured recipe, which gives each batch its own distinct flavour and personality. To make the best cheese, they need the best milk. Their dairy cows graze the windswept Arran landscape, which helps produce rich, creamy milk to make the award-winning cheddar. The milk comes from just two farms on the island, and the passion of the farmers, combined with the Scottish west coast grazing, provide the perfect conditions to produce award- winning cheddar. Set in the idyllic village of Kilmory, you can visit the Torrylinn Creamery and watch Isle of Arran cheddar being made by their skilled cheese-makers. Then visit the creamery shop and try a wee taste of the delicious cheddar for yourself. Once bitten you’ll be forever smitten! You can also find a fantastic range of flavoured truckles at the Co-op at Brodick and Lamlash. Try delicious new flavours like Lime and Chilli, Caramelised Onion and Cracked Black Pepper, as well as their award winning Extra Mature.
