Westie Fest launch is a success
The official launch of Westie Fest, the first book in a series of Arran-based books called Corrie Capers, was an overwhelming success with more than 50 adults and children visiting the event to meet the author and get their hands on a copy of the book.
Held at the Glenisle Hotel in Lamlash, visitors packed out the entire snug area and spilled out into an adjacent room where drinks and nibbles were available.
Young readers and their parents, along with older readers who are fans of Westie dogs and Arran, had the opportunity to have their books signed and to meet the author, Alison Page.
Many who had bought their copies of the book online brought their well fingered copies in to have Alison write a special ded- ication to them. Alison’s son Alex, and friend Lynne MacVicar hosted a small store which did a roaring trade in selling copies of the books and merchandise which included coasters, alphabet posters and pins.
The Westie Fest and the entire series is a not-forprofit project which, once it has covered its minimal costs, will make a generous contribution to the fundraising efforts of Mary’s Meals, a charity that feeds hungry schoolchildren and provides emergency relief in disaster areas.
Alison said: ‘Lots of firsts for me this year, first book I’ve written, first book I’ve published and now my first book launch. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone and signing their books.’
The Westie Fest tells the story of the Arran adventures of a West Highland terrier called Corrie and features a number of Arran landmarks. The vivid and colourful illustrations are by Kirsty Oxley. The book is available online at https://westie.scot/ or from online retailers and at most stores throughout Arran.
