Entertainment is child’s play at museum fun day
The Arran Heritage Museum continued with its winning formula of traditional fun and games at its annual children’s day which always ensures a large crowd of children who visit the Brodick attraction to enjoy the many delights on offer.
Taking place last Sunday, in overcast conditions, the weather could not put a damper on the spirits of the excitable children who were treated to an array of fun activities and tasty treats.
While the adults enjoyed lunch and refreshments from Rosaburn Cafe, children took part in traditional games such as horseshoe tossing, ball and skill games and the popular bat the rat game.
Under a large marquee other wholesome activities, which included cake decorating, necklace making, weaving and felting, all vied for the children’s attention.
The more active children, and many adults, enjoyed the bash, crash, smash game where participants threw sand-filled bags at crockery piled high atop one another in order to win prizes.
An almost certain method of winning prizes was at the children’s tombola where those that did not win a toy prize still received an invitation to have a quick dip into the sweetie jar.
Many children created their own sweet treats at the cake decorating stall while others built a skewer of tasty nibbles which they then coated in chocolate from the chocolate fountain.
Once some of the excitable energy had been burned off children enjoyed more sedate activities such as looking at some of the exhibitions on offer including a Lamborghini super-car, a large model railway or a story-telling session by author Alison Page, who read from her book The Westie Fest.
During the day soothing music was provided by the Arran Fiddle Club and in the afternoon the busy, but always popular, Arran Pipe Band performed to the delight of the adults and children.
