Lamlash notspot

-

Sir, I had a letter published in the Banner several years ago on the subject of poor phone coverage in Lamlash. To date, it appears the situation has not changed, despite numerous articles in the press.

A new Scottish government pilot scheme aiming to tackle so-called mobile phone signal ‘notspots’, was introduced in March, 2016 and included Arran.

I understand from an article in the Scotsman, April 25 2018, that EE are providing coverage in Lamlash as part of a bigger project, a new Emergency Services Network which will be piggybacked on the existing EE (BT) 4G sys- tem. The ESN is replacing the existing Airwave radio system used by the Emergency Services in the UK.

There is an article in the website ISPreview.co.uk, dated April 25 2018, which states that EE 4G has gone live in Lamlash, although there is no indication in Shore Road, near the council offices. I assume that 2G/3G is also being provided since not all phones have 4G capability.

This may be good news for users on the EE network, but no comfort to those on the other major phone networks.

Since there is Scottish Government involvement in improving phone coverage, I suggest the local MSPs investigate in order to find out what is the present state of play.

Yours, Robin Gardner Lamalsh and Milton of Campsie
