March pride
Sir, I was returning to Arran on Saturday July 14 with the Arran Coastal Rowing Club having competed in the Largs Regatta when I chanced upon two young ladies in the Ardrossan ferry terminal.
They were bedecked in rainbow colours and having a thoroughly good time. We had a brief conversation and they told me they’d been to the Glasgow Gay Pride March that day. En route to Brodick I saw the girls again with a larger group of youngsters who’d clearly been to the march too. What a great credit to our island and our youngsters standing up for what they believe in – tolerance, equality and inclusivity.
Contrast the message that shone out from them like a beacon of light to the hateful bigoted behaviour of the Catholic priest who held a service to atone for the ‘gross offence to God that is Pride Glasgow’. IF god exists by what special talent, denied to the rest of us, does this hateful person arrogantly profess to know what offends God? Truly his ilk belong in the dustbin of history. Thankfully he’s already been removed from the chaplaincy of GCU. Doesn’t the Lord work in mysterious ways!
The world needs more people of love, tolerance and understanding as shown by Gay Pride. Well done to that group of youngsters and to ALL who attended the march on Saturday. I’m proud of you.
Yours, Stephen Brown Kildonan
