Make a Will, make a difference

-

The Ayrshire Hospice were absolutely delighted that £30,162 was raised during their last Make a Will fortnight with 372 Wills being prepared or updated by a team of 38 supporting solicitor offices across Ayrshire & Arran, with 21 offices from North Ayrshire and Arran alone.

The campaign is hugely popular and has now raised over £140,000 for the hospice since it began seven years ago, mainly thanks to the ongoing support of the many participating solicitors throughout Ayrshire who willingly give their service free of chargein return for a donation to the hospice.

The next Ayrshire Hospice Make a Will Fortnight will take place later this month. If you’d like to take the opportunity to make or update your Will in exchange for a donation to the hospice, all you need to do is call the participating solicitor of your choice and book an appointment between 15th and 26th October. The solicitors will guide you through the process and will also collect your donation to the hospice. A list of all the supporting solicitors is available on the Ayrshire Hospice website at https:// www.ayrshirehospice.org/ how-you-can-help/fundraising/legacies/or by calling the Fundraising Office on 01292 288488.

Kathryn Howell, senior fundraising officer at the hospice said: ‘Our thanks must go to the generous solicitors and supporters in the North Ayrshire community and beyond, for once again supporting this important campaign. It really was an exceptional amount to raise during the two week campaign whilst at the same time providing our supporters with some important advice on making their Will.’

During 2016/17 over £777,000 was kindly left in bequests and legacies to the Ayrshire Hospice by people in their Wills. These gifts are a vital source of income for the hospice as over two-thirds of their funding comes from voluntary donations.

The care provided by the Ayrshire Hospice is at no cost to the patient, however, it does require extensive, on-going fundraising support. It costs almost £7.6million to run all hospice services, including clinical, fundraising and support services – equating to approximately £20,800 per day.

Would you consider leaving the Ayrshire Hospice a gift in your Will? Every gift, large or small, makes a difference to patients, their families and loved ones, and those the hospice will care for in the future. Just 1% from an estate can make a significant difference and leaving a gift to the hospice in your Will could have tax benefits for your estate by reducing inheritance tax.

If you would like any advice about the Ayrshire Hospice Make a Will Fort- night or would like to find out how you could leave a gift in your Will to the hospice, please contact the fundraising office on 01292 288488.
