Road reopen

The main Arran circular road is partially reopen after being closed for eight days north of Corriecravie following a landslide. Work is still going on after the subsoil and soil up the embankment was found to be sodden.

Local roadmen, with engineering support from the mainland, are laying three field drains, one a short distance directly up the hill and one each in either direction along the road’s edge. These meet on the hill side of the road which has been dug out to a depth of four feet.

A large drain has been put underneath to collect the water and take it away in the hope of preventing the subgrade under the bottoming becoming sodden again.

No to museum

An application to change the use of St George’s Church, Lamlash to a museum of childhood was refused at Tuesday’s planning meeting.

Readers will recall that there were plans to turn the church into a theatre but it was sold to a private developer last year.

Nevertheless, Ms Tina Warren, who wanted to relocate her museum of childhood from Pitlochry, pressed ahead with her application in case the sale fell though.

She felt that a museum was more in keeping with the ethos of the theatre group.

However, the planners, not having heard further from the applicant, recommended refusal.
