Music Arran finale concert will finish on a high note
The final concert of Music Arran’s season is destined to finish on a high note as the group welcome Escocia Duo to Brodick Hall.
Taking place on Saturday March 16, at 7.30pm, the concert will feature the musical talents of Katrina Lee (violin) and Roberto Kuhn Versluys (classical guitar) who formed in 2017 and who met while both studying for their masters of music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
As a duo, they made their debut performances touring in Chile, South America, last May and since then have performed recitals in Scotland where they are based. They have a real ambition to increase the repertoire available to them by arranging and transcribing music that is not normally heard on the particular mix of bowed and plucked instruments. Alongside recitals, they have also held workshops in schools, focusing on helping to deliver aspects of the curriculum to children and bringing live music into a learning environment.
Their Arran concert will include music by Nicolo Paganini, Eddie McGuire, Bela Bartok, Peter Maxwell Davies and some Argentinian tango.
Roberto Hernan Kuhn Versluys is a recent graduate of the Master of Performance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, studying with renowned Scottish classical guitarist Matthew McAllister. Roberto also holds Bachelor titles in composition and education as well as classical guitar performance from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.
His work as a soloist and as a chamber musician has taken him to different parts of the world including Mexico, Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Spain, Germany and the United Kingdom
Katrina Lee is a Yorkshire violinist, who began studying from the age of eight at the Kirklees Music School with Ralph Barker. In 2010, Katrina received a scholarship to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland graduating with first class honours in 2014 and masters in 2016 under the tutelage of Andrea Gajic, receiving the highest mark for her final recital.
Katrina was appointed the principal second violin position with Scottish Ballet in February 2017 and has enjoyed learning all of the rich ballet repertoire including Swan Lake, Nutcracker and most recently Highland Fling. She now looks forward to the winter season of Prokofiev’s Cinderella.
Her playing work has taken her to lots of countries including most recent the Lincoln Centre in New York. Other places include China, South America, Hong Kong, Canada, Iceland, Italy and Prague. Katrina is also a member of the very popular Brodick Quartet.
