College spotlight on Arran’s mental health and wellbeing

-

North Ayrshire Wellbeing and Recovery College (NAWARC) held an open day in Brodick hall recently with Brodick Nursery children and parents enjoying a music-making workshop and learning about the college.

Members of the public and community/health workers were also welcomed to the open day with many smiling faces finding their groove in the African drumming workshop.

Women’s Aid and Penumbra Peers 4 Hope, partners of NAWARC, provided information on their services and volunteers shared their moving stories of support received. There was a discussion to explore what NAWARC could offer to support mental health and wellbeing in Arran and what courses might be of interest. Anyone who lives, works or studies in North Ayrshire can access the wellbeing courses and there was a consensus this was needed in Arran but the challenge might be people having the courage or confidence to go along to something new.

There will be an additional taster day on Monday November 18 when, from 11.30am to 12.15pm, there will be a workshop called Write to Recovery at Arran Library. From 1pm to 1.45pm, a talk on apps for wellbeing will take place at Ormidale Pavilion and in the same location, from 2pm to 3.15pm, there will be a further talk on confidence building.

If there is sufficent demand, the recovery college will offer the eight week course Living Life to the Full next year.
